Paul at Ephesus The great commission, however, was by Jesus authority, it was in His name. It required faith in Him and it placed men in a covenant relationship with Him. Johns baptism was limited in time and purpose. Johns purpose was to prepare for the Christ. Johns baptism was to prepare for the Christ.
